Hello riders, I would
like to say thank you for your confidence in electing me VP this year.
Hopefully we can get a few things going this year and have some fun
along the way. I would like to see as many members as possible at this
months meeting so we can go over some things I would like to see done
and some things for all of us to do together can be discussed and decided
upon before the year gets away from us. I would
like to see some quality events put together for the year, for example,
maybe an overnight trip to the Brushy Mountain Park in N.C., a ride
at the MX park in Sweetwater, & maybe even at the Cumberland Mountain
Motorcycle Club area. But I would like all of your input on these ideas.
I would like to go ahead and schedule some of these events now so we
can plan for them throughout the year. Feel free to come with
any other suggestions for rides or events. Also would like to see a
fundraiser for the year. Hope to
see you all at the meeting, Steve
Special Note…Needs Attention
With a
new year for the Volunteer Riders starting up and some new blood
in the ranks I have come up with a new cause for the year. Just
thought I'd pass this along and see what you all think of trying to
help out this year, either with a fundraiser or your time. Tuesday
evening on Live at 5 on WBIR channel 10 there was a story about
a school that was taking a field trip to the Science Museum in
Oak Ridge. Yes a school, the whole school. It
was the Stony Fork Elementary School, it is a small school on
the other side of Caryville Mountain, many of you are probably
familiar with the area and have even ridden by. Steve
said that you also had the gas stop for one of the rides and the Clinchmore
Church just past there one time. This school teaches kids from
K thru 12, all of 32 students. It being a small school made up of all
grades they do not get the funding of other larger schools in the area. Also
being in such a remote area they do not receive the technical support
and teachers needed. It was also flooded in 2004. I talked
to the principal Wednesday and she said they are always in need of monetary
funds but also any computer help would be appreciated. They now have
about 20 computers but a lot are not usable; they have viruses
or whatever and need help getting them up and running. They have
one tech for 15 schools and with them being so small they are not top
priority. One of the boys was interviewed and said he would hate to
see the school closed for various reasons but his grandma also cooked
lunch for them in the cafeteria. So you
all discuss this and if this is something you think you might want to
help with this year let me know. I told the principal that
I would let her know what we might be able to do. This is something
that the wives of members may also want to help with when we find out
more. Thanks
for the ear, or eyes LeAnn Lewis
